Princess Kate was left feeling "very sad" following the storm created by her Mother's Day photo blunder, a source has claimed.

In a surprising admission, Kate said she "edited" a photo in which she was seen with her children on Mothering Sunday.

However, an insider disclosed that the princess wanted to make the shot the "best it could be" and felt "awful" about the edited photograph.

According to the Mirror, a friend of Kate's also expressed she would be "upset" by the controversy around what was intended to be an "innocent family photograph".

While a source told The Sun that the Princess of Wales was "very sad" over the backlash the Mother's Day photo received.

It follows the princess's admission that she "sometimes experimented" as an "amateur photographer" in an unusual post on X.

Six international photo agencies removed the image from their archives and wire services, an unprecedented response to an official royal photograph.

The reason given was that they were worried that "the source has manipulated the image".

Kate subsequently apologised for any "confusion" the picture may have created.

The kill notices from these agencies fuelled the flames of the baseless claims that persist over Kate's health.

There were concerns about Prince Louis' fingers as well as why Princess Charlotte's wrist did not match the sleeve of her cardigan.

The first picture of Kate and her children released after her abdominal surgery in January was taken last week at the family's Windsor residence by Prince William.

It was thought that the image would also put an end to the rumours on social media regarding the princess's condition.

According to royal sources, the princess made "minor adjustments" to the photo, which she and William intended to be a nice "informal" snapshot to share on a memorable day.

One source told The Mirror: "The princess made minor adjustments, as she shared in her statement on social media.

"The Wales family spent Mother's Day together and had a wonderful day.
