Martin Kemp has revealed he refused to formally greet Princess Kate outside his home during her visit to discuss her Shaping Us mental health campaign with his son Roman.
The Spandau Ballet star was determined to treat the Princess of Wales like any normal guest rather than follow royal protocol.
The memorable encounter took place when Kate visited the Kemp family home to meet with Roman about her mental health initiative.

Roman explained how the unexpected royal meeting came about: "I had an email that came through (saying) would I help with her Shaping Us campaign that was to do with mental health and it was a great campaign, they've been doing it for a long time."
The initial contact was followed by a Zoom call with the 43-year-old Princess of Wales.
This virtual meeting allowed Roman to discuss the details of their upcoming encounter.
The stage was then set for Kate's visit to the Kemp family home.

As anticipation built for the royal visit, Martin recalled the moment that stood out most to him: "My fondest memory of that day was when the Range Rovers are coming up the drive and the police guys that were with her came in and said to me and mum 'Will you come and stand outside and wait for her and say hello?'."
The musician firmly declined the formal reception request.
"I said 'Argh no, I'm not doing that, it's getting like Downton Abbey'," Martin explained.
Instead, he waited inside whilst his wife Shirlie greeted the Princess at their doorstep.

After the future Queen made her way inside, both Martin and Roman were struck by the surreal nature of the visit.
They fondly remembered Kate's considerate gesture of removing her shoes upon entering their home.
The Princess of Wales then joined the family for a relaxed conversation in the kitchen.
Kate enjoyed tea and biscuits during what turned into a casual chat with the Kemps.
The father-son duo expressed their astonishment at how normal and respectful the royal visitor was throughout her time in their home.
