A new royal book has detailed a predicament that Charles faced over Kate and Meghan

Princess Kate has been "eaten up" by a last-minute decision Charles made as his mother Queen Elizabeth II was dying in September 2022, according to a royal author.

In his new book, Robert Jobson details a predicament that Charles faced over his sons' wives being with the Queen in her final moments.

The royal author claims that Charles asked Prince William not to bring Kate with him so that it would be fairer for Meghan Markle when she was also asked not to attend.

However, Kate desperately wanted to be there with the Queen in her final moments and the decision has led to her resentment building up towards the Duchess of Sussex, the royal author claims.

Jobson writes: "Harry was insisting Meghan travel with him to Scotland as the Queen’s life ebbed away but the King said it was only for the children and grandchildren to be with the Queen.”

The royal author claims that Charles asked Prince William not to bring Kate as "if Catherine doesn’t come, Meghan can’t either, it’s not appropriate for wives to attend".

Mr Jobson continued: "Privately, he wanted to say Meghan was not welcome but he couldn’t say that to Harry so he personally intervened and asked Kate to stay back so that it was fairer on Meghan.

"Kate deliberately stayed away but she desperately wanted to be there with the Queen in her last moments.

"That’s eaten Kate up and has built up resentment towards Meghan."

Jobson also claims that Kate found participating in a walkabout with Meghan and Harry "one of the hardest things she has had to do".

Kate, Prince William, Prince Harry and Meghan spoke with members of the public together during the walkabout following the Queen's death.

In his new book titled Our King Charles III: The Man and the Monarch Revealed, Jobson claims sources told him that while the royals looked united on the day, it was that not the case.

The royal author said that according to sources, the image of unity was an “illusion”.

He wrote: "Catherine later admitted to a senior royal that, such was the ill feeling between the two couples, the joint walkabout was one of the hardest things she’d ever had to do."
