The Royal Family are playing a "very important role" in the recovery of the Princess of Wales and King Charles as the pair battle cancer, a specialist has claimed.
King Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024 and is continuing to receive treatment but has returned to undertaking royal duties.
The Princess of Wales announced in March 2024 that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy after cancer was found in tests following her abdominal surgery earlier this year.
Last week, Kate shared a candid message updating the nation on her health condition, revealing she is “making good progress” but has “good days and bad days”.
The 42-year-old added that she is “not out of the woods yet” and is facing months more of treatment.
Speaking to Digital Royal Editor Svar Nanan-Sen and Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker on The Royal Record podcast cancer specialist Karol Sikora explained: "It's very important to have someone around to care for you and to support you psychologically as well as physically.
"If you feel tired, you want to be able to relax, it's really important to have emotional support and that can come from a family, from a partner or even from grandchildren.

Cancer specialist Karol Sikora explained that a support network is very important

"You see all sorts of wonderful things happening in families that may have dissipated a bit, split up, daughters coming back, having been absent for ten years, coming back and living with their mum to help through a difficult time in life."
Cameron added: "We saw Prince Harry come back across the Atlantic when the King had his cancer diagnosis or made it public. So I suppose it just shows how illness can bring people back together."
The specialist agreed: "It does and I think making it public is important because there are about 350,000 a year who get cancer. 1,000 patients a day, nearly.
"So to know that the Royal Family have the same problems as us, it's a wake-up call that you can't avoid it, and we have to live with it. They're having to live with it too and everyone copes in very different ways."

Gettyin April 2024, the King returned to his public duties but has scaled down his work.
Kate made her first public appearance of 2024 at Trooping the Colour on Saturday and joined her family on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
Kate also shared a touching moment with King Charles as working members of the Royal Family watched the flypast.
The Princess of Wales is hoping "to join a few public engagements over the summer" but she did not attend Garter Day or Royal Ascot this week.
