Varying outlandish conspiracy theories have surfaced about The Princess of Wales's whereabouts

The American blogger and columnist Perez Hilton has hit out at the "conspiracy theory-ism" surrounding Princess Kate as she recovers from an operation.

The Princess of Wales went for a planned abdominal surgery in January, and in a statement released by the Palace explained that she would not be returning to royal duties until after Easter.

Rumours about why Kate has been missing for so long reached new heights last week, with several outlandish theories emerging.

The Palace did put an end to them by releasing a statement that said that they "were really clear from the start we weren’t going to provide a running commentary on the Princess of Wales’s health and only provide significant updates."

Speaking to GB News, Hilton said: "I think much worse than wokeism is this explosion that we've seen over the last few years of conspiracy theory-ism.

Even right now, the last couple of weeks there in the UK, everybody going bananas over Princess Catherine. Kate Middleton, where is she? Why don't we know this, that the other, and the craziest possibility is not always accurate.

"Even yesterday she was finally seen and Katie Holmes was trending because dumb people are speculating that it was Katie Holmes and not the Princess of Wales.

"I don't like the word woke or wokeism, but as somebody who made a lot of mistakes in the past, I do try and be mindful of others.

"I believe that we should not be a world full of Donald Trump's saying absolutely everything that we're thinking in the most harmful way possible.

"I'm a centrist and I believe that if we all function somewhere in the middle, the world would go a lot more smoothly."

Various social media accounts have posted insensitive and baseless claims about Kate as she continues to recuperate in private.

The Prince of Wales, 41, has carried out sporadic royal duties, but is primarily taking care of his wife and three children in their Windsor Cottage.

William's spokesperson said: "His focus is on his work and not on social media."

Kensington Palace reaffirmed Kate's recovery timeline through a statement: "We were very clear from the outset that the Princess of Wales was out until after Easter and Kensington Palace would only be providing updates when something was significant."

Kate has only been spotted once since the procedure, sitting in a car driven by her mother, Carole Middleton, on March 4.
