US talk show host Andy Cohen said he was a “numpty” for fuelling Princess Kate’s conspiracy theories in a public apology.

The 55-year-old shared his thoughts last month about the rumours spreading on social media about Kate’s health.

But now, Cohen has apologised for his comments in light of the princess announcing her cancer diagnosis.

He said that he “wishes he had kept his mouth shut” about the conspiracies during an episode of his SiriusXM radio show, Andy Cohen live.

Cohen said: “I just want to say I am heartbroken by the news about Princess Kate

“I think someone on Sky News called me a numpty, and they were right. I wish I had kept my mouth shut.”

He added: “We are all praying for Princess Kate and King Charles.”

Cohen also explained that this was his “first opportunity” to address the subject following a break in his show.

Leading up to Kate’s announcement, there were weeks of speculation surrounding her health and conspiracy theories spread online.

These rumours intensified after Kate admitted to photoshopping an image of herself and her children that she posted online.

When a video was released of Kate visiting a farm shop in March, Cohen fuelled the conspiracy theories by tweeting: “That ain’t Kate…”

He also addressed theories about Kate on his Daddy Diaries podcast on March 22, bringing up rumours that Prince William had an affair.

Cohen is among many other celebrities who have apologised for joking about the princess before her video message.

American actress Blake Lively issued an apology for mocking Kate’s Photoshop blunder.

She posted on Instagram: I'm sure no one cares today but I feel like I have to acknowledge this.

"I made a silly post around the 'Photoshop fails' frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today.
