Princess Kate is set to stay with "close family" and not host a "large crowd", according to a royal commentator.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, suggested this year's Christmas celebrations will have a special focus on supporting both the King and the Princess of Wales.
Bond said: "After the year they've had, I'm sure it's going to mean the world to the King and Queen to have as many of their family as possible joining them for Christmas."
The gathering is expected to be increasingly child-oriented as the number of young royals grows.

"As the number of youngsters increases, so the celebrations become more and more child-oriented. Which is exactly what Christmas should be all about," the royal expert told OK!.
The entire family is expected to unite around the King and Catherine, helping to "put this year behind them and cheer them into a brighter year ahead".
The accommodation arrangements at Sandringham will see family members spread across several properties on the estate.
The Princess of Wales's parents are expected to stay at Anmer Hall, though according to the royal expert, Catherine may host just close family rather than a large gathering there.

PABond said: "If Catherine's parents are there, they will certainly stay at Anmer Hall. I'm not sure Catherine would yet feel up to hosting a huge crowd at the Hall, so I imagine it would just be close family."
The Yorks are set to be accommodated at Wood Farm on the estate.
The Royal Family will maintain their traditional Christmas Eve customs, with the Queen's grandchildren and great-grandchildren helping to decorate the 20ft Christmas tree in the White Drawing Room.
Following German tradition, presents will be opened on Christmas Eve at tea time, with gifts laid out in the Red Drawing Room on a white linen-covered trestle table.
The royal guests typically exchange cheap and humorous gifts as part of their festive celebrations.

The Royal Family is preparing for their biggest Christmas gathering in years, with 45 members set to celebrate at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

"We'll be in Norfolk, at Sandringham. We'll be 45 for Christmas. It won't be quiet, it will be noisy," the Prince revealed.
In a candid moment, William admitted he wasn't yet prepared for the celebrations, telling one family: "Am I ready for Christmas? No, no way am I ready."
The gathering will take place at the historic Sandringham house, which stands within a sprawling 20,000-acre estate in Norfolk.
