The Princess of Wales paid homage to the late Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana through her jewellery over Remembrance weekend.

The Princess of Wales wore pearl earnings, which previously belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II, as she watched King Charles and her husband, Prince William, lay a wreath at the Cenotaph during the Remembrance Sunday service.

She observed the ceremony from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office balcony, joined by Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh.

The late Queen had previously worn the earrings to Remembrance Sunday services in 2016 and 2019, and to the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh in 2021.

The earrings were a gift to the Queen for her wedding to Philip in 1947.

Princess Kate wore the same earrings to Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.

Author of The Queen: 70 Years of Majestic Style, Bethan Holt said: "Pearls are one of the very few jewellery items you can wear in mourning and are inextricably linked with Queen Elizabeth and her personal jewellery legacy.”

The milestone appearance is the first time the Princess of Wales has done back-to-back public appearances across two days since she was diagnosed with cancer.

The princess paid tribute to her royal mother-in-law when she wore Princess Diana's earrings on Saturday evening during an engagement at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall alongside Prince William.

Princess Diana

Princess Diana wore the accessories most famously in 1994, when Diana wore her infamous revenge dress just hours after Charles confessed to adultery.

She paired the vintage earrings with a stylish £128 Monica Vinader necklace, with a poppy pinned to her black dress.

The Collingwood drop pearl and diamond earrings were initially given to Princess Diana as a wedding gift when she wedded Charles in 1981.

Princess Diana wore the accessories on numerous occasions, including tours of Australia, the United States and most famously in 1994, when Diana wore her infamous revenge dress just hours after Charles, then Prince of Wales, confessed to adultery.

Princess Kate wore this staple piece in Belgium in 2017.
