The Princess of Wales has received constant support from her family whilst navigating a challenging year

Princess Kate has made just seven public appearances so far in 2024, but each of her outfits carried huge weight and significance.

Beginning with Kate's hospitalisation for abdominal surgery in January, the Princess of Wales's medical journey has been widely reported this year.

On March 22, one week before Easter, the princess sat down for a heartfelt video message in which she declared she was starting a preventative chemotherapy course. Following this, Kate did not emerge in public until June at Trooping the Colour.

This return to public life was momentous, not just because it was Kate's first official public sighting in 2024, but also because she confirmed she was hoping to attend a "few engagements over the summer," hinting at a staggered return to royal duties.

The mother-of-three added that she was "not out of the woods yet," referring to her cancer treatment at the time.

Although Trooping the Colour is held to celebrate the monarch's birthday, all eyes were on Princess Kate on June 15, 2024. Kate did not disappoint in the style department, choosing a chic black and white Jenny Packham dress, paired with a Philip Treacy hat.

Royal fans immediately spotted the "My Fair Lady" references, where Audrey Hepburn wore a very similar look in the iconic 1964 film.

In the specific scene where Hepburn wears the black and white dress, she is not quite yet comfortable in the public sphere as she attends Royal Ascot. Whether or not Kensington Palace was trying to draw parallels between the character Eliza Doolittle and Princess Kate remains unclear.

As the Royal Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Kate made a stunning appearance at the Men's Singles Final of Wimbledon in July - her second official outing in 2024.

The 42-year-old wore a £1,295 purple dress from Safiyaa, a sweet nod to the purple and green colours of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Kate's purple dress in a sea of green at the grass court of SW19 was a sight to behold, as it meant once again, all eyes were on the Princess of Wales.

She was beaming with joy, especially when the crowds gave her a standing ovation as she took her seat beside her sister, Pippa Matthews, and her daughter, Princess Charlotte.

In September, Kate announced she had completed her course of preventative chemotherapy in an emotional video alongside Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The following month, the Prince and Princess of Wales met with bereaved family members of the Southport stabbing victims. Unsurprisingly, Princess Kate chose an understated outfit for this visit, consisting of a brown polka-dot dress from Whistles and a burgundy coat from Alexander McQueen.

Compared to her chic looks at Trooping and Wimbledon, Kate's outfit in Southport likely indicated a low-key return to her everyday duties.

One thing that was missing from Kate's look was her 18-carat sapphire engagement ring, previously belonging to Princess Diana. She had seemingly "replaced" the engagement ring with a diamond and sapphire eternity band, which was also worn in Kate's video announcing the end of her chemotherapy.

However, fans were overjoyed when Diana's ring was firmly back on Kate's finger in November. The Princess of Wales chose an elegant attire for the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, November 9, wearing a black wrap dress with long sleeves from Alexander McQueen, as well as pearl earrings previously owned by Princess Diana.

The following day, Kate stood beside her good friend, the Duchess of Edinburgh, on the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office to watch the Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph war memorial. With her hair tied back in a chic bun, the Princess of Wales looked sophisticated in a Catherine Walker dress-coat for the poignant event.

In December, the Royal Family hosted the Emir of Qatar and his wife at Buckingham Palace for a State Visit. The Prince and Princess of Wales hosted the couple on their arrival, before taking them to the Ceremonial Welcome on Horseguards Parade.

Kate chose to wear Queen Elizabeth II's Japanese pearl choker and a burgundy McQueen dress coat designed by Sarah Burton, who famously created the Princess of Wales's wedding dress back in 2011. However, Burton left McQueen for Givenchy earlier this year, meaning this coat was likely a past-season item already in Kate's wardrobe.

The message was clear, after a year of hardship and brutality, Kate has had the constant support of her husband and three children

When Kate and William joined the Emir of Qatar inside Buckingham Palace, Kate seemingly changed her outfit into an Eponine dress that she wore to the Christmas carol service back in 2022. She also changed her shoes, having originally worn Gianvito Rossi leather boots and gloves, to chic burgundy stilettos from the same brand.

For Kate's final outing of 2024 before Christmas Day, she chose a red look for her annual Christmas carol service, which surprised many royal fans as she had already worn shades of red and burgundy in the past for this event. She chose a repeat red coat by McQueen paired with a black bow, similar to her bow look from Remembrance Sunday.

The princess wore a tartan Emilia Wickstead skirt underneath, which she had also worn several times in the past. Immediately, fans noticed similarities to Princess Diana's looks during the 1980s, a sweet homage to her late mother-in-law.

However, the most striking part of Kate's outfit was that she matched with her three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six. The boys wore red ties, while Charlotte wore a burgundy coat, which created a backdrop of solidarity within the Wales family.

The message was clear, during a year of hardship, Kate has had the constant support of her husband and three children.
