Prince Harry has taken part in an ITV documentary that criticises the media

Prince Harry has been blasted for "hypocrisy" after a preview clip was revealed for a new ITV documentary.

The Duke of Sussex is taking part in a film named Tabloids On Trial, due to air this evening, that discusses his varying court battles with the press.

In the preview clip, journalist Becca Barry asked the duke: "To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed your relationship with your family?"

To which he replied: "It is certainly a central piece to it. It is a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press."

Speaking about the new ITV footage, broadcaster Carole Malone told GB News: "How do you compare that with what Harry does now?

"Harry now is an integral part of the media that he despises so much.

"He has become a media person and got very rich off the back of being a media person.

"He sells secrets about his family to the media. This interview is him being part of the media.

"So to hate it in the way that he does is hypocrisy in the extreme. And he doesn't seem to say that he sells his own stories.

"He makes stories known to the media that he wants to be put out there."

In the documentary, the Duke revealed that his motivation to take on the press is partly to do with his mother Princess Diana.

The Duke of Sussex also discussed the High Court case against Mirror Group Newspaper, in which he was awarded damages for phone hacking.

"To go in there and come out and have the judge rule in our favour was obviously huge.

"To be able to achieve that in a trial is a monumental victory."

Mirror Group Newspapers said in response to ITV's documentary: "We welcomed the judgment in December 2023 that gave the business the necessary clarity to move forward from events that took place many years ago.

"Where historical wrongdoing took place, we apologise unreservedly, have taken full responsibility and paid compensation."
