James Middleton explained: 'We are a close family'

Carole Middleton lives closest to her son James, despite Princess Kate and Pippa Matthews' Berkshire move.

James Middleton, 37, and his wife, Alizee Thevenet, live with their one-year-old son in the Berkshire countryside.

In a candid interview, James revealed his parents, Carole and Michael, live just "five minutes up the road" from him.

In terms of his older sisters, James explained: "Pippa and James are about 20 minutes away and Catherine and William are about 30 minutes away."

James, who has lived around the Berkshire area all his life, said it is "lovely" because he sees his family often.

"We are a close family and we are fortunate that we see lots of each other and my parents play a good role in getting us all together in that respect," he added.

The interview took place at James's sprawling farmhouse in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

James was satisfied with the Prince's appreciation for dogs, telling Hello!: "He had a long love of dogs. He had a very strong relationship with a black lab called Wigeon growing up, so he knew the powers of what dogs can do."

During the interview, James revealed that his son Inigo has fallen "in absolute love" with his golden retriever, Isla.

James expressed delight that his beloved canine brood has "accepted" his son into the fold.

He shared an amusing anecdote about his son, saying: "Well, I think he spent the first year of his life thinking he was a dog - being on all fours."

"It was quite entertaining to watch," he added, joking that Inigo's first word could have been "woof!"

Inigo is now the same "head height" as Isla when she's seated, making her a perfect companion.

James explained how his son puts his arm around the dog's neck for a hug, with Isla responding with "a lick on his face."

Despite his own passion for dogs, James insisted he would never "force" his love for the animals onto Inigo.

James said he was conscious that he wanted Inigo to love dogs "for what they are" and build his own relationship with them.

He noted that his son cannot simply "absorb" his father's "love for dogs and animals."
