Paul Burrell says Queen Camilla will 'never win the PR battle against Diana'

Former Royal Butler and friend of the late Princess Diana, Paul Burrell, has revealed why Queen Camilla "doesn't want to be Queen".

Discussing the Queen Consort's performance during her first year in the role, Burrell said Camilla has been "quiet".

Speaking to Mark Dolan on his GB News show Mark Dolan Tonight, Burrell shared his thoughts on the latest season of Netflix show The Crown, in which Princess Diana is set to be depicted as a 'ghost', following her death in Paris.

Burrell said the scenes which will recall her last moments leading up to the tragic car crash, and as a ghost after her death will be "very upsetting for a lot of people".

Burrell spoke of the impact on King Charles and Queen Camilla, adding: "The Crown is going to open up old wounds, especially for Charles and Camilla.

"And it's a war which Camilla can never win."

Detailing the relationship between the late Queen Elizabeth and Camilla, Burrell revealed: "I'm not sure she's winning the battle as a Queen either, because our dear late Queen did make it known that she wanted Camilla to be known and styled as Queen Consort. But I think the king had other ideas.

"He always insisted that she would be his queen, styled and crowned beside him. I'm not so sure that the public totally agreed with him on that."

Mark asked Burrell for his personal take on Camilla as Queen, and if he believes she's been a "disappointment".

Burrell admitted: "I think she's been very quiet. I think she's been in the scenery, she's been in the sidelines. She's been there to keep Charles on track I think. I don't think she really wants to be Queen.

"I think she's just landed this role because she loves the man who happens to be king. So you know, it's a dilemma for her. It always will be a dilemma for her and the more she can keep out of the limelight.

"I think better for her because she will have much a much more rewarding life staying in the sidelines and not front centre."

Mark highlighted Burrell's earlier comment that Camilla will "never win the PR battle with Diana", which Burrell agreed "never".

He added: "Diana was loved by millions around the world, still is loved by millions in our own country. It's an impossible battle."
