Buckingham Palace has released a Duchess of Edinburgh update in a new announcement.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh will represent the Royal Family at the annual Anzac Day commemorations in London on April 25.


The 60-year-old will be the sole royal attendee at the events organised by the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions.

No other members of the Royal Family, including Prince Edward, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, or Princess Kate, are expected to attend the commemorations.

The Duchess will participate in several ceremonies throughout the day, continuing the royal tradition of honouring those who served from Australia and New Zealand.

The mother-of-two will begin the day at the Dawn Service held at Hyde Park Corner.

She will later attend the Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey.

The Duchess will also participate in the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Cenotaph.

During this solemn occasion, she will lay a wreath on behalf of His Majesty The King.

This representation at multiple ceremonies throughout the day underscores the importance the Royal Family places on commemorating the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand forces.

The wreath-laying is a particularly significant moment in the day's proceedings, symbolising the monarch's respect for the fallen.

Anzac Day has been observed in London since 1916, when King George V attended the first service at Westminster Abbey.
