In today's GB News Daily Reflection, we consdier how the Annunciation highlights how God’s “great rescue mission” began quietly through Mary, mother of Jesus.
Her acceptance of the angel Gabriel’s message with faith and patience encouraged believers to trust in God’s promises, even during long periods of waiting and uncertainty.
“It is worth remembering that God's great rescue mission begins here, without fanfare, in the quietness, the stillness, and in the humble, obedient response of a young girl nobody had heard of.
“In my experience, God can sometimes speak as if through a megaphone, and it's deafening. But at other moments, he comes as the still small voice, the whisper in the silence, the unexpected word to the unassuming soul.
“How are we to respond? To know the voice of God is to have the confidence to say yes. As Mary does, though, there will be nine long months of waiting before silence gives way to celebration.
“Now, times of waiting and inaction can lead us to doubt what is true. But we should not deny in the dark what God has spoken in the light.
“Where God has spoken, however softly, he will come good on his promises. So may we echo the wonderful words of Psalm 27 today: wait on the Lord, be strong, and take heart, and wait on the Lord.”
