Today Reverend Marcus Mak from St Michael’s Church in Newhaven reflects on the inadequacies of the human race and how Jesus provides insights into this enigma.

“For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.” - Matthew 15:19.

Mak adds: “It is easy to point the finger and blame those people over there, but the problem with the world is the problem with our hearts.”

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a season “marked by an attitude of remorseful self-examination in light of a holy God”.
