'He was very close to Peter Mandelson,' GB News host Andrew Peirce noted
Wes Streeting has been warned that “more to come” from the Peter Mandelson files could damage his leadership ambitions.
Speaking to GB News, political commentator Piers Pottinger cautioned that the additional papers could cause further “embarrassment” to the Government.
The Government was compelled to release the documents pertaining to the appointment of Lord Mandelson as US ambassador earlier this year.
Initial disclosures triggered resignations among the Prime Minister’s top team and placed intense pressure on Sir Keir himself.
However, documents relevant to the Metropolitan Police’s inquiries into the New Labour architect’s connections with Jeffrey Epstein remain sealed until the investigation is completed.
“We have still got a raft of Mandelson papers coming out that could cause Keir Starmer even more embarrassment,” Mr Pottinger said.
“Wes Streeting particularly… there’s more of that to come,” the political commentator suggested.
“He was very close to Peter Mandelson,” GB News host Andrew Peirce added.
In Febuary, Mr Streeting released a tranche of correspondence between Lord Mandelson and himself “after a weekend of smear and innuendo that I have something to hide”.
