Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer went head-to-head for a live debate on ITV

Rishi Sunak has promised that if he is Prime Minister after the election "the flights will go to Rwanda."

Responding to an audience member the PM said that “immigration is too high,” but claimed that the Conservative Party “got the numbers down by a third last month.”

He adds: “If Keir Starmer is elected all those people will be released and the flights will be cancelled...Stick to our plan and those illegal migrants will be out.”

Keir Starmer said: “The levels of migration are at record highs, 685,000. It’s never been so high.”

“The prime minister says its too high - but who’s in charge? He’s in charge. He’s the most liberal prime minister we’ve ever had on migration.”

He added: “We need to smash the gangs running this vile trade.”
