Chancellor Rachel Reeves has said that she is "confident" that Labour will be able to work closely with Donald Trump to improve trade.
In a interview with GB News, she said: "I believe in free and open trade. It's good for Britain and it's good for the United States. It's served us well for many decades. That trade between our two countries is worth more than £300 billion.
"Last time that Donald Trump was president of the United States, a trade between the UK and the US increased, and so did investment flows.
"I want to see that happen again, and I'm confident that we will work closely with president elect Donald Trump and his team to improve trade and improve investment between our two countries because we have a special relationship, the closest of bonds, and we will continue to build on that."
