Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has apologised to the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire as the final report was published by the inquiry today.

The final report into the tower block’s fire found that the incident resulted in “decades of failure” by both the Government and construction industries.

The report also concluded that each of the 72 deaths as a result of the blaze were “avoidable”.

Reacting to the report, the families of Grenfell victims said in a statement that “human life was never a priority” when it came to the building of the tower block.

Addressing MPs in the Commons, Starmer said: “In the face of an injustice so painful, so deserving of anger, words can begin to lose their meaning. Seven years still waiting for the justice that you deserve.

"I want to say very clearly, on behalf of the country, you've been let down so badly before, during and in the aftermath of this tragedy."
