Kamala Harris is said to have gone "silent" and is no longer talking to the media amid a flurry of swing state election calls for Donald Trump.
Shortly before 6am GMT, Trump was projected to win Georgia and North Carolina - flipping the former away from the Democrats.
The Vice President is also trailing in crucial states Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona - which are all now must-wins to secure a paper-thin path to the White House.
Harris's press spokesman told staff not to talk to the media as state calls kept flooding in, according to Fox News.

Later, it emerged that Harris will wait until Wednesday, local time, to address the nation.
Her campaign co-chairman Cedric Richmond insisted: "We still have votes to count. We still have states that have not been called yet."
He added that the campaign will continue to fight "to make sure that every vote is counted... That every voice as spoken".
But video footage from Harris's Howard University election night base showed crowds leaving the venue in droves.

If he's successful, Trump will repeat an historic presidential record.
Trump looks set to become only the second President to complete two non-consecutive terms in office - following in the footsteps of 19th-century Commander-in-Chief Grover Cleveland.
