Donald Trump and Kamala Harris had a fiery presidential debate earlier this week

Former US President Donald Trump "is looking to craft revenge," a US commentator has claimed as he delivered his verdict on the possibility of a second debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Despite initially declaring on his Truth Social platform that "THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!", Trump later appeared to soften his stance.

When pressed by Fox News' Aishah Hasnie about what it would take for him to agree to another debate, Trump responded: "I wouldn't need anything. I could do it tomorrow."

He added, "Maybe if I got in the right mood, I don't know," whilst claiming he was "leading in every single" post-debate poll.

Speaking to GB News, US journalist Nelson Aspen said: "He loves to talk and he loves the platform.

"I think he would like to maybe craft some revenge against Kamala for doing so well in that first debate and really call her on some of the inadequacies."

He added: "Because she was very strong on style, less so on substance."

Commenting on Trump's debate performance, he said: "What was interesting was how he has managed so far to pretty much maintain a statesmanlike attitude.

"But Kamala Harris using her skills as a former prosecutor, she did put out a lot tantalising moments. Donald Trump seemed to take the bait every time."

Harris has expressed openness to another debate, stating: "I believe we owe it to the voters to have another debate."

A second debate could have significant implications for both candidates and the upcoming election.

For Trump, it presents an opportunity to address criticisms from the first debate and potentially sway undecided voters.

Aspen explained: "And the bottom line is people want to feel safe.

"They do feel it in their pocketbook. And yes, there are plenty of issues that are important to people, some more than others.

"But the bottom line, I think overall is who is going to protect us now from talking about these undecided voters?"

Harris, having been perceived as the winner of the first debate, could use another platform to further solidify her position and challenge Trump's policies.

The debate's outcome could influence voter perceptions and potentially shift poll numbers as the 5 November election approaches.
