Joe Biden has faced mounting pressure to step down ahead of the US election

A US senator has been left "fuming" at the "weak" president of the US for supporting Ukraine and claimed that "Trump will figure out how to make peace".

It comes as Joe Biden and Donald Trump are set to face off in the November election for the second time.

Speaking to Steven Edgington on GBN America, Senator Roger Marshall said: "I have faith that if President Trump is re-elected, they can figure out how to make peace after two years of really going nowhere.

"Hundreds of thousands of people have died. We should give every ounce of effort to figure out peace.

"I don't think that we can continue to fund this at $100billion a year. We've given them $200 in total so far. I still think I would even back up the context of why we ended up here.

"We ended up here because we have a weak president in the White House. When I talked to Nato leaders privately, the first thing they asked me is, why did the Americans leave Afghanistan the way that they did? If that did not happen, Russia would never have invaded Ukraine."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Edington asked him: "So this stems from American weakness as to why Russia invaded Ukraine in the first place. Do you also blame Nato expansion, as some people have in this conference today?"

He responded: "I think that Nato expansion forced Putin's hand in many ways. Now, did he just use that as an excuse? He saw a weak president.

"He saw how we ran with our tail between his legs out of Afghanistan. Did he use that as an excuse? I don't know, certainly, I understand that Russia for centuries has been a lauded land.

"They want land. They want power. They want to rule the world. China wants to own the world. Russia wants to rule the world.

"So I do think when we saw Finland coming in as well, that the East starting to build that pressure and everything crushing in on him as well.

"I'm very concerned about this ten-year security agreement that Biden has unconstitutionally signed with Ukraine."

Joe Biden forcefully pledged to defend Ukraine against Russia’s invasion and announced dozens of new air defence systems for Kyiv, as he welcomed Nato leaders for a summit in Washington earlier this week.

The address on Tuesday was Biden’s highest-profile policy speech since a halting performance in a debate on June 27 that raised questions about his fitness for office as well as fears that he may lose the November 5 election to his predecessor and Nato sceptic, Donald Trump.

Biden declared that Nato was "stronger than it’s ever been in its history". And that is a good thing, he said, "because this moment in history calls for our collective strength".

"Autocrats want to overturn the global order" and "terrorist groups" continue to plot "evil schemes", Biden said, while in Europe, Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to wipe "Ukraine off the map".

"But make no mistake, Ukraine can and will stop Putin," the US leader said, "especially with our full, collective support. And they have our full support."
