Kamala Harris is set to become the official Democrat election nominee after Joe Biden stepped down on Sunday

Former Donald Trump aide Sebastian Gorka has blasted Kamala Harris and claimed that "democrats have disdain for democracy."

The current Vice President is set to become the official Democrat election nominee for the Presidency after Joe Biden stepped back from his re-election bid last weekend.

Harris was endorsed by Biden for the Democratic nomination after the 81-year-old announced his decision.

Speaking on GB News Gorka claimed: "The Democrat delegates that Biden accrued in their recent primary were gifted by the senile old husk of a man in the White House to Kamala, which means she hasn't been elected.

"She hasn't been elected. She's been selected. That's the disdain they have for democracy in the Democrat Party.

"She's been incredibly quiet in the background with everything going on with Biden, which does say quite a bit.

"I don't think there was much confidence in her before until they were desperate, which is what it looks like now.

"They're desperate. They need someone. And she sort of kind of reminds you of a sort of Michelle Obama."

He added: "What happened is we had the debate with President Trump. Biden had his mouth open for an hour and a half.

"He said complete nonsense and garbage. They were desperate. And so she's been parachuted in as the desperate candidate for a desperate party so they can maintain power. But after the assassination attempt on my former boss, people know who the Democrats are."

According to the Harris campaign, the vice-president raised more than $80million (£62million) in new donations in the 24 hours after Biden’s announcement.

The Trump campaign and his allies have made Harris’ handling of the border crisis into one of their main attacks against Harris in recent weeks.

Harris was harshly criticised by the left for telling people thinking of migrating to the US in a June 2021 speech, “Do not come,” adding, “If you come to our border, you will be turned back.”

The Vice President also came under scrutiny for not visiting the border early in her tenure.

When NBC News’ Lester Holt asked her in an interview why she hadn’t visited the border and Harris got defensive, telling Holt, “This whole thing about the border.

"We’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border.”

When Holt responded that Harris hadn’t personally been there, she said, “And I haven’t been to Europe” and didn’t “understand the point that you’re making.”

She then visited border facilities in El Paso, Texas, later that month.
