The Vice President looks set to replace Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s 2024 nominee

Kamala Harris has been tipped to pick a “white man” as her running-mate to boost her chances of winning in key battleground states.

Harris, 59, received Joe Biden’s endorsement after the 46th President revealed he would stand aside ahead of November 5’s poll against Donald Trump.

The Vice President, who received the backing of key Democrat Nancy Pelosi, raised a record-breaking $80million in 24 hours.

Harris looks set to select a male candidate from the midwest to offset her liberal Californian standing.

YouGov’s latest poll handed Trump a three-point lead over Harris, with the 45th President narrowly ahead in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

A separate Emerson College survey even suggested Trump is ahead in Virginia.

The Old Dominion voted for Biden in 2020 by 10.1 per cent, having supported the Democratic nominee in every election since 2008.

However, a shock Ipsos poll injected more energy into Harris' campaign after it handed the Vice President a lead over Trump.

Speculation about Harris picking a “white man” as her running mate comes amid concern about Trump’s lead in key Rust Belt states.

Steve Schmidt, a Democrat-affiliated strategist, told Puck News on Monday: “It can’t be two female candidates.

“It can be, but I don’t think that’s going to go. So it’s going to be a white male candidate.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg were both earmarked as potential running-mates.

However, Trump’s top aide Chris LaCivita suggested Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro could get the nod.

Speculation about Harris' running-mate comes after Trump unveiled Ohio Senator JD Vance as his pick for Vice President at last week’s Republican National Convention.

In her first speech since Biden dropped out, Harris praised his “unmatched legacy” in the Oval Office and claimed he had “already surpassed” the record of many two-term Presidents.

Speaking about her friendship with the president’s deceased son, she said: “The qualities that Beau revered in his father are the same qualities that I have seen every day in our president: his honesty, his integrity, his commitment to his faith and his family, his big heart and his love, deep love of our country.

“I am first-hand witness that every day our president, Joe Biden, fights for the American people, and we are deeply, deeply grateful for his service to our nation.”
