Harris received backing from Joe Biden to receive the Democrat nomination

Tom Del Beccaro, who stood against Kamala Harris in 2016 in California for a Senate seat, has hit out at his former foe in a rant on GB News.

It comes after Harris received backing from Joe Biden to receive the Democrat nomination for November’s presidential election.

The 81-year-old announced yesterday he is backing down and will not be seeking reelection.

Speaking on GB News, Del Beccaro spoke out on why he feels Harris will struggle if she is the eventual nominee.

“She can’t think on her feet”, he said.

“In the debates I had with her, in California which is lopsided to the Democrats, I won the after debate poll because she couldn’t answer questions.

“Number one, she is going to have to deal with a lot of threats. Number two, she has not had to run a lot of campaigns.

“She ran unopposed for the Senate and attorney general positions. Then she ran for president and never entered any primaries.

“In a crash course way, she will have to run for president with the whole world on her. She is not particularly experienced in doing this sort of thing.”

Citing her “word salads’, Del Beccaro said she is unlikely to curry any favour with undecided voters.

“The left of centre media here are lionising us to make us believe she will be great”, he said.

“She isn’t great on her feet, she is on record saying she wants to get rid of the Senate filibuster. This is why she has a 35 per cent approval rating which is lower than Biden’s.

“They can take her resume and make it into an amazing thing, but her actual reality is how she got to her approval rating.

“Remember, even the Democrats in the primary didn’t like her, it’s not like she has this amazing record.”

Biden offered his “full support” to Vice President Kamala Harris shortly after announcing his decision to withdraw from the race.

In a post on his social media account, he said: “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
