The 81-year-old president announced his decision to withdraw from the race

GB News star Michelle Dewberry has hit out at those “gaslighting” her for raising concerns about Joe Biden’s cognitive health.

The 81-year-old president announced his decision to withdraw from the race for reelection yesterday, saying he is doing so with the country’s best interests at heart.

Biden’s poor debate showing against Republican rival Donald Trump last month prompted more concerns about his ability to govern.

Michelle said she and others have raised concerns about Biden for much longer.

“One of the things I do feel has been going on is, you see things with your own eyes and you watch exchanges like that and they’re uncomfortable”, she said.

“You’re seeing someone decline and you’re almost being gaslit. When people are flagging that there’s something not quite right, they’re being told they’re being manipulated and what we’re seeing isn’t real and so on and so forth.

“It’s pretty damn insulting, actually.”

Michelle went on to point the finger at Biden’s family, asking whey they did not do more to protect the president as he launched his bid for a second term in the White House.

“I don’t understand why the loved ones of Joe Biden have put him through this”, she said.

“Why wouldn’t you be in his ear trying to encourage him?”

Former Labour adviser Scarlett Mccgwire agreed with Michelle, adding: “That’s a really good question.

“A lot of fingers have been pointed at Jill Biden over the last few months. Why was she not saying to him the game is up?”

Announcing his decision to withdraw, Biden said: “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made.

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

In a separate letter posted to X, Biden said it had been the greatest honour of his life to serve as president.

“And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling the duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

He said in his statement he would address the nation on the matter next week, adding: “For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work.

And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.

“I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”
