The 81-year-old was reportedly told to 'stay at home' by his Vice President

Joe Biden has been told to "stay at home" by Kamala Harris with even those sympathetic to the President saying he has been "lonely."

Over the weekend, the 81-year-old has been hidden away in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, enjoying a long lunch at his golf club with an old friend.

According to a report by Axios, for the past month the Harris campaign has been rebuffing the President's repeated offers to help her on the trail. The answer from Team Harris each time: "We'll get back to you."

Insiders told the Daily Mail that the President has been "watching more television" with his seven grandchildren giving him recommendations for what to stream on Netflix.

Joe Biden announced he was standing down as the Democrats' nominee on July 21.

The President said in an open letter "it is in the best interest of my party" to stand down and "focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."

Before his announcement, 37 Capitol Hill Democrats had called on the Potus to step aside.

Professor David Redlawsk, a political scientist at the University of Delaware, told the Mail: "'I doubt that Biden had really plotted out what would end up being his last 100 days or last few months."

As a former president, he gets healthcare for life and an allowance to set up an office.

He'll also be eligible for two different federal pension programs due to his long tenure in the Senate and his time as president. Combined, these could pay him $413,000 a year.

President Biden's official diary has been notably empty. For 43 of the 75 days since he dropped out of the race, he hasn't had any scheduled public events. Nor did he hold a single press conference during his trip to Germany last month.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reportedly carries a special 'lame duck' file to help her address any media questions about her out-of-action boss.

Reporters have spotted Biden's Chief of Staff, Jeffrey Zients in Washington DC personally buying lunches for his team and slipping out of the White House gate to enjoy time outside.

Zients has been tasked with starting the transition process, meeting with the Harris and Trump campaigns to make logistical arrangements for whoever comes out on top.

Harris, the first female Vice President, would become the first woman, Black woman and South Asian American to win the presidency.

Trump, the only president to be impeached twice and the first former president to be criminally convicted, would also become the first president to win non-consecutive terms in more than a century.

Control of both chambers of Congress is also up for grabs. Republicans have an easier path in the US Senate, where Democrats are defending several seats in Republican-leaning states, while the House of Representatives looks like a toss-up.

Trump's campaign has suggested he may declare victory on election night even while millions of ballots have yet to be counted, as he did four years ago.

The winner may not be known for days if the margins in battleground states are as slim as expected.
