Joe Biden gaffes caught on camera are 'cheap fakes' claims White House in desperate defence

Republicans have since insisted that they have not tampered with the footage
The White House has claimed that videos of Joe Biden's public blunders have been heavily edited and are “cheap fakes”.
Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary, accused Republicans of sharing modified videos in order to belittle Biden, who is expected to take on his predecessor Donald Trump in the November Presidential election.
In response, Republicans have dismissed the White House’s claims and said that the videos have not been tampered with.
A cheap fake takes real video footage and edits it to alter the context to mislead the viewer. They require only basic editing software so can be done quickly and easily, as opposed to deepfakes which use artificial intelligence.
Recent viral moments of Biden freezing, which Jean-Pierre claims have been edited, include the President’s trip to Normandy for the D-Day anniversary, a G7 summit in Italy, and a fundraising event with Barack Obama.
“Ironically, several cheap fakes actually attack the President for thanking troops. That's what they are attacking the President for," Jean-Pierre stated.
“Both in Normandy and Italy, this happened. It tells you everything you need to know about how desperate Republicans are here. Instead of focusing on the President's performance in office, his legislative wins, and what he's done for the American people, we're seeing these deep fakes, these manipulated videos done in bad faith.”
In a viral clip, Biden attempted to sit on a chair that was not there whilst at a D-Day landings memorial service in Normandy.

PAMeanwhile in Italy, the 81-year-old President was captured walking away from other world leaders during a G7 summit meeting. Whilst the group were posing for photos, Biden wandered away before Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni ushered him back.
He also froze whilst on stage during a Juneteenth celebration at the White House. It was only when Philonise Floyd, brother of the late George Floyd, eventually noticed the pause and placed his arm around him in an apparent effort to help which snapped the 81-year-old out of his daze.
Most recently, Biden appeared to freeze on stage at a fundraiser for his re-election bid. The 81-year-old was seen waving and putting his thumb up to the audience before he suddenly stopped moving and stared into the crowd for a prolonged period of time.
Former President Obama intervened and took Biden by the arm which appeared to snap him out of his freeze.
The White House has encouraged people to watch the videos for their full duration to make up their own minds.
Biden, who frequently misspeaks and makes blunders in public, has referred to himself as a “gaffe machine”.
In a recent gaffe, Biden appeared to mix up the Russian and Chinese Presidents, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, in a sit-down interview with Time magazine where he discussed key policy points.
A recent Department of Justice report claimed that Biden has “diminished faculties” and a “poor memory”.
The report, authored by Special Counsel Robert Hur, who spoke with the President regarding classified documents, described the 81-year-old as a “well-meaning, elderly man.”
The report said: “It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him – by then a former president well into his eighties – of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”
Hur said he decided not to charge Biden for mishandling of documents – which related to China and Ukraine respectively – partly due to his “poor memory”.
The White House previously said Hur’s comments on the President’s memory were “gratuitous” and “inappropriate”.
