The President believes his former friend is working in coordination with other senior politicians to force him to withdraw from the Presidential election

Joe Biden is thought to be furious at Barack Obama after media reports that the ex-President wants his former running mate to step aside.

Self-isolating due to Covid, the 46th US President is said to be angry at the way he has been treated by his allies.

A growing number of Democrat voices have urged the 81-year-old to withdraw from November's Presidential race in order for a new Democrat candidate to be put forward.

Biden has repeatedly shrugged off concerns about his age and cognitive ability, but an increasing number of influential figures are intervening to call on him to rethink his re-election bid.

Earlier this week it was claimed that Biden't predecessor, Obama, is among those pushing behind-the-scenes for a new face to top the Democrat ticket for the White House.

US media claims the President is furious at reports and believes his former friend is working in coordination with other senior politicians to force him to withdraw.

The New York Times claims Biden is "increasingly resentful about what he sees as an orchestrated campaign" against him.

It added that the incumbent of the top job finds it "particularly rich" for Obama to be "lecturing him about how to save the party" given the comparisons of their records in office.

The Delaware man is claimed to believe his better-than-expected midterm results in 2022 prove he has what it takes to re-win election.

In comparison, Obama oversaw catastrophic losses for the Democrats in the 2010 midterm elections.

Biden has admitted that he could drop out of the 2024 Presidential race if diagnoses with a "medical condition" that could impact his ability to govern. However, currently, he is firm in his commitment to seek re-election.

A memo sent to campaign staff on Friday read: "Joe Biden has made it more than clear: He’s in this race and he’s in it to win it."

It added: "Moreover, he’s the presumptive nominee — there is no plan for an alternative nominee.

"In a few short weeks, Joe Biden will be the official nominee. It is high past time we stop fighting one another.

"The only person who wins when we fight is Donald Trump."
