US President Joe Biden withdrew from the race last weekend

There was a clear sign that Joe Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race "wasn't his decision" political commentator Brandon Tatum has claimed.

Tatum joined Mark Dolan to react to the 81-year-old’s decision to quit the presidential race and his subsequent address to Americans.

He pointed out that Biden's disappearance ahead of the announcement was a key sign that the choice to remove himself "wasn't his decision at all".

Tatum told GBN America: "I don't think that it was Joe Biden's decision whatsoever. The interesting part of it is that Joe Biden went on a tyrant all over the media saying, I'm not dropping out, I'm going forward. I'm totally fine. The doctor said it, I'm okay.

"His campaign, literally the day before he drops out, says that Joe Biden is going nowhere, then he somehow get Covid and disappears.

"His first address to the nation of stepping down was through X. I don't know if they would call it a press release.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

"You would think that the president of the United States, if he's going to step aside and not be the the person that's running for office, which is unprecedented at this point, would address the nation via video.

"That's like telling your wife something important and texting it to her. It makes more sense for you to either talk to her about something serious in person or give her a phone call.

"At least you wouldn't send it through text. And that's what the president of the United States did to the entire nation. Ito pretty much text us the most consequential decision that the Democrat Party has ever made."

After the tweet Biden did release a video and explained that he was quitting his re-election campaign in a bid to save US democracy.

His poor debate showing against Donald Trump last month set alarm bells ringing in Democrat circles with the 81-year-old doing little to quell fears about his cognitive ability.

The president stumbled on his words on multiple occasions as he clashed with his Republican foe, who accused Biden of “not knowing what he’s saying”.

Biden said he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to unite the Democrats and America.

He spoke for 11 minutes from the Oval Office with his wife, Jill, son, Hunter, and daughter, Ashley, alongside some key White House Staff.

“I have decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation”, he said.

“That is the best way to unite our nation.”

The president vowed to “finish the job for the American people” before the end of his term in January next year.

He branded Harris, 59, an “experienced, tough, capable” partner.
