Elon Musk has lambasted “activist” US judges who blocked his plans to dismantle USAid.
In the days after the federal ruling, Musk took to social media to launch a series of attacks against the judges, offering money to voters to sign a petition opposing “activist judges” and calling on Congress to remove them from office.
“This is a judicial coup,” he wrote on X. “We need 60 senators to impeach the judges and restore rule of the people.”

It comes as his “department of government efficiency” (Doge) has been facing countless legal challenges to its government overhaul, which has included firing thousands of government workers and gaining access to sensitive government data.
Doge is currently facing nearly two dozen lawsuits, some of which have already led judges to mandate greater transparency for Musk's initiative or reverse certain aspects of its rapid cuts to federal agencies.
According to the New York Times, Musk has been financially supporting those who back his cause, reportedly donating funds to seven Republican members of Congress who called for impeaching judges.

The mogul also launched a petition against “activist judges” on his political action group America Pac, offering registered Wisconsin voters $100 if they signed.
America Pac has poured millions of dollars into Wisconsin’s April 1 supreme court race, in which Musk is backing a former Republican attorney general.
His campaign against judges has intensified as part of a broader clash between the Trump administration and the judiciary over the rule of law, especially after court rulings that opposed the administration's mass deportation efforts.
This reflects a long-standing pattern of Trump attacking judges who have ruled against him in cases related to his businesses or personal matters.

REUTERSThe tensions between the White House and the judiciary escalated to the point where Chief Justice John Roberts made a rare public statement on Tuesday to defend the integrity of the justice system.
Roberts wrote: “For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision.”
“The normal appellate process exists for that purpose,” he added.
Responding on X the following day, Musk wrote: “For more than two centuries, there has never such [sic] extreme abuse of the legal system by activists pretending to be judges. Impeach them.”
