Trump revealed he was 'very angry' with Putin - and agreed to 'keep up the pressure' on Russia in a call with Keir Starmer

Donald Trump has revealed that he was "very angry" and "p***ed off" with Vladimir Putin after the Russian President called for Volodymyr Zelensky to be ousted.

Trump said Putin's recent remarks were "not going in the right direction" - with both the US and Ukraine looking to secure a ceasefire with Russia.

He told NBC: "If I feel we're in the midst of a negotiation, you could say that I was very angry, p***ed off... when Putin started getting into Zelenskyy's credibility, because that's not going in the right direction."

He also issued an ultimatum to Russia: If Putin cannot agree to a deal on "stopping bloodshed in Ukraine", then he would slap secondary tariffs on "all oil coming out of Russia".

"That would be that if you buy oil from Russia, you can't do business in the United States. There will be a 25 per cent tariff on all oil, a 25 to 50-point tariff on all oil," he said.

But alongside that, Trump extended an olive branch - he said that though Putin knows he is angry, Trump has "a very good relationship with him" and "the anger dissipates quickly... if he does the right thing".

He added that he was planning to speak with the Russian President again this week.

Trump was also on the phone to Sir Keir Starmer on Sunday, and the pair "agreed on the need to keep up the collective pressure on Putin" - the first time that No10 has mentioned pressuring Russia after a call with the US.

"Discussing Ukraine, the Prime Minister updated the President on the productive discussions at the meeting of the coalition of willing in Paris this week," Downing Street said.

"The leaders agreed on the need to keep up the collective pressure on Putin."

It comes as Zelensky warned that over the last week, "most regions of Ukraine were under attack".

"1,310 Russian guided aerial bombs, over 1,000 strike drones and nine more missiles of various types, including ballistics" battered his country, a statement from the President on Sunday read.

"A significant part was shot down by our air defense soldiers, mobile fire groups, and all units involved in protecting the sky.

"Russia is dragging out the war, and we are providing our partners with all the information about what strikes the Russian army is carrying out and what it is preparing for.

"We expect a response from America, Europe, and all our allies to this terror against our people."

He added: "Thank you to every country that helps us with air defense systems and invests in our defense production. All this helps protect Ukraine."

But it's not just Putin and Ukraine which have gained Trump's attention - the President also had harsh words for Iran.

If the Iranians failed to agree to halt nuclear weapons production, there would be consequences, he said.

"If they don't make a deal, there will be bombing... It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before."

"There's a chance that if they don't make a deal, that I will do secondary tariffs on them like I did four years ago."
