Historian Victor Davis Hanson claimed that the moderators "fact checked Trump four times" but "did not fact check Kamala once"

Donald Trump "has the edge" over his opponent Kamala Harris and is set for "victory" in November's Presidential election, it has been claimed.

The US leadership hopefuls went head-to-head for the first time this week in a live televised debate, with Trump claiming he "won" his clash with Kamala Harris on social media.

Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said: "People are saying BIG WIN tonight! I thought that was my best debate, EVER, especially since it was THREE ON ONE!"

Discussing the ABC debate on GBN America, historian Victor Davis Hanson claimed that the moderators "fact checked Trump four times" but "did not fact check Kamala once".

Comparing the Trump and Harris campaigns ahead of the election, Hanson admitted that Harris "exceeded expectations" because she "didn't have a meltdown".

However, Hanson claimed that if American voters re-listen to the debate, Trump "won" because he "zeroed in on three important issues".

Hanson explained: "One issue was that if she's such a candidate of change, why didn't she do anything when she was Vice President for three and a half years? She's got almost five months left, why doesn't she just enact it?

"The other point is she's not telling us what she's going to do. She kept talking abut her plan dozens of times, but she didn't spell out what it was. And finally, she's trying to remake herself. She says she's woke, a radical, but Trump made the point that what she is now temporarily is not what she has been all of her life."

When asked for his thoughts on Trump's calling his political rival "Comrade Kamala" and if she is a "Communist", Hanson claimed that it "depends on how you define Communist".

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Hanson said: "If you talk about Cold War totalitarianism, probably not. If you talk about soft communism or the increasing popularity of something that, like we see in Venezuela, which is authoritarian and communist or Marxist, probably so.

"She said she wants to cancel Patton, she wants to confiscate guns, she wants to have a wealth tax that has never worked, she wants to tax unrealised income.

"She's promised all these giveaways, amnesty, transgendered surgeries for illegal immigrants, for prisoners, for giving counselling illegally, student loans by executive fiat. So, yeah, she's a redistributionist in the Marxist mould."

Turning the discussion to the mainstream media in America and the possible "bias" of the debate against Trump, Hanson claimed that ABC were "corrupt" in their handling of the candidates.

Hanson told GBNA: "Since World War two and the rise of television, I think it's a general rule that the media has been overwhelmingly liberal, but I didn't say left wing.

"But there is a reason why a national presidential Republican has not won 51 per cent of the popular vote since 1988, and lost seven out of the last eight popular votes. And that's because they are dealing with a uniformly hostile and activist media, along with other institutions."

Host Steven Edginton agreed with Hanson, adding: "The American media seems to be very biased in favour of Kamala - at least the major broadcast networks other than Fox.

"It just seems quite shocking, being as she's only done one major media interview since announcing her candidacy."
