Donald Trump's Deputy Assistant has predicted how the US President would react to Chancellor Rachel Reeves's claim an EU trade deal is "arguably more important" than the US.
The Chancellor sparked criticism after travelling to Washington for talks aimed at securing a trade deal with America, but suggested that the UK is aiming for stronger ties with the European Union.
Speaking to the BBC, Reeves said: "I understand why there's so much focus on our trading relationship with the US but actually, our trading relationship with Europe is arguably even more important, because they're our nearest neighbours and trading partners."
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was quick to counter Reeves's comments, describing the US as "incredibly important" to the UK.

Discussing the remarks on GB News, Sebastian Gorka shed light on the President's stance on securing a trade deal with the UK - and how he would react to those remarks made by Britain's Chancellor.
Gorka simply told host Patrick Christys: "'Who?' - I think that's probably what the President said."
Pressing Gorka on where Donald Trump is with a trade deal with the UK, Gorka stressed that there are "more than 100 Governments" around the world who want "better terms" with the US administration, following the President's implementation of worldwide tariffs.
Gorka explained: "There's more than a hundred heads of state, 100 governments who desperately want to have better terms, because we're not going to be the world's piggy bank anymore.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Starmer moved quickly to counter comments from Reeves suggesting the Government prioritises EU trade relations over those with the US
PA"So I am doing my work in the NSC (National Security Council) - I'm a little bit concerned, my colleagues in the National Economic Council are now being deluged by these requests - they're having to rack and stack in an Excel spreadsheet, the prioritisation."
However, as a "former Brit" himself, Gorka assured that Donald Trump "loves the UK" and the Labour Government "won't have much to worry about", despite Reeves's remarks.
He told GB News: "Let me say, as a former Briton and as an individual who knows how much the President loves the UK, that I don't think you have much to worry about.
"And you saw that in the first decision to give you half of the tariff levy that was put against the rest of the European Union, so you're in good standing already. So don't complain, and we're going to fix the rest of it imminently."

Hailing Donald Trump's first 100 days in office, Gorka declared the administration is "winning, winning, winning", expressing his excitement for the next four years in the White House.
Gorka concluded: "It's just incredibly exciting. Whether it's sealing the border, whether it's restructuring global trade with the tariff deals, whether it's what we're doing in International Security, under my team's incredible commitment, we've hunted down more than 70 leading jihadis and given them ultimate justice.
"It's just winning, winning, winning, winning. I can't believe it's just been 100 days and I'm looking forward to the rest of the four years of my bosses second term in the White House."
