Donald Trump has unleashed a scathing attack on Tim Walz after the Minnesota Governor was unveiled as Kamala Harris' running-mate.
Walz, 60, was picked after a number of Rust Belt Democrats were shortlisted to appear alongside the Vice President on the November 5 ballot.
Trump, who recently selected Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running-mate, issued a damning statement through his Campaign Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Leavitt said: “It’s no surprise that San Francisco Liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running-mate - Walz has spent his governorship trying to reshape Minnesota in the image of the Golden State.
“While Walz pretends to support Americans in the Heartland, when the cameras are off, he believes that rural America is ‘mostly cows and rocks’.
“From proposing his own carbon-free agenda, to suggesting stricter emission standards for gas-powered cars, and embracing policies to allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide.
“If Walz won’t tell voters the truth, we will: just like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerously liberal extremist, and the Harris-Walz California dream is every American’s nightmare.”
Leavitt’s intervention comes as Harris and Walz look set to tour a number of key swing states this week, including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.
However, the Democrat duo will also move on from the Rust Belt to campaign in marginal Sun Belt states.

GettyWalz was credited with being the architect of a viral meme branding Trump and Vance as “weird”.
Addressing a crowd of canvassers last month, the 60-year-old said: “These guys are just weird.”
In an interview with CNN, Walz also branded the 45th President with the same insult.
He said: “I see Donald Trump talking about the wonderful Hannibal Lecter or whatever weird thing he is on tonight... That is weird behaviour. I don’t think you call it anything else.”
Walz was seemingly referencing Trump’s bizarre remark about the 1991 horror movie villain as the 45th President made a loose connection with the issue of illegal immigration.
Responding to the dig, Trump said: “Nobody’s ever called me weird. I’m a lot of things, but weird I’m not.”
Walz, who was a long-time supporter of LGBT rights and served in the Army National Guard for 24 years, returned as Minnesota’s Governor by a margin of 7.7 per cent in 2022.
Harris's decision to confirm Walz as her running-mate could propel the Vice President’s campaign further forward.
However, Redfield & Wilton Strategies' latest opinion poll put Trump ahead in Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
The pair were level in Nevada and Wisconsin, with Harris edging ahead in Arizona, Minnesota and New Mexico.
