Sebastian Gorka said peace between Ukraine and Russia is 'imminent' if they recognise Trump's efforts

Donald Trump's Deputy Assistant has launched a scathing attack on critics of the President's Ukraine strategy, dismissing them as "ignorant" and "churlish".

Speaking to GB News, Sebastian Gorka claimed peace between Russia and Ukraine is "imminent" if both sides recognise Trump as the only viable peace broker.

He emphasised the need for "common sense" in accepting current territorial realities to end the conflict.

"We are as close to a deal [in Ukraine] as is humanly possible if the parties want to engage in common sense," Gorka told GB News.

"Peace is imminent. If both sides understand that there's only one man who can broker that deal, that it is President Trump."

He described critics of Trump's approach as "asinine, they're ignorant, and they're churlish, and they're doing nothing to actually bring peace to the European continent."

Gorka's comments come as peace talks continue in London, though without US Secretary of State Marco Rubio who cancelled his attendance due to "logistical issues".

Instead, President Trump's Ukraine envoy General Keith Kellogg will represent Washington at the discussions.

The decision follows warnings that the US would abandon peace brokering efforts unless clear progress is made soon.

Trump has repeatedly stated he wants to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine by May.

Tuesday marked another deadly day across Ukraine following a series of Russian airstrikes that hit mostly civilian infrastructure overnight.

These are the very targets both sides are seeking to find common ground on as peace talks move forward.

For the first time in three years, Moscow and Kyiv now say they are willing to inch towards peace negotiations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine is open to all ceasefire formats that could lead to peace.

"Ukraine has repeatedly said that it does not rule out any format that can lead to a ceasefire and, ultimately, real peace. Stopping the killing is task number one," Zelenskyy emphasised.

He insisted on an "immediate, complete, and unconditional ceasefire" but noted this is only possible "if Russia agrees and stops the killing."

Gorka claimed America must once again rescue Europe from conflict, stating: "America came and saved Europe in 1917, did exactly the same thing after Pearl Harbor. The idea that we're having to do it for a third time in less than 110 years is truly, truly remarkable."

He dismissed European leadership efforts, adding: "There's a lot of 'jaw-jaw' in Europe. There's only one person who can stop the 'war war', and that's President Trump."

Gorka challenged critics of Trump's territorial approach, asking: "Are you going to send your sons? Are you going to send your children to take back Crimea from Russia?"

He called for pragmatism in addressing the conflict, stating: "Let's have a little bit of common sense prevail, and at least for the time being, stop the bloodshed."

"What happens later as a result of negotiations is another question, but let's just stop the meat grinder," he concluded.
