The Republican nominee and ex-President has slammed his former rival

Donald Trump has boasted that Kamala Harris will be "easier to beat" as he gave a brutal assessment of Joe Biden following the latter's decision not to seek re-election.

In a statement posted on X, Biden said he would not seek re-election and would address the nation later in the week, endorsing his Vice President Kamala Harris as his choice to be the Democratic nominee.

The current Potus said "it is in the best interest of my party" to stand down and "focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term".

In a second post on X, he referred to picking Harris as his running mate in 2020 as the "best decision" he's made and that he's endorsing her for President.

Following the announcement, Trump took to social media platform Truth to slam Biden and referred to him as the "single worst President".

He wrote: "Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was!

"He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement.

"All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t - And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists.

"We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

He also told CNN that he thinks Harris will be easier to defeat in November's election compared to Biden.

A CNN reporter said on X that Trump made the comments to the network shortly after Biden announced his decision.

Donald Trump Jr took a similar tack and started his attack on the Vice President.

He wrote on X: "Kamala Harris owns the entire leftwing policy record of Joe Biden.

"The only difference is that she is even more liberal and less competent than Joe, which is really saying something.

"She was put in charge of the border and we saw the worst invasion of illegals in our history!!!"
