The former US President went head-to-head with the Vice President for the first time in a live televised debate

American voters have been left split following the first and only leadership debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

The former US President went head-to-head with the current Vice President in a live televised debate on ABC, and took to social media afterwards to claim his "victory" over Harris.

Alluding to two polls by Leading Reporting and Political Polls on Twitter, Trump appeared to have the victory by a large majority.

Among the 31,000 respondents in the Leading Reporting poll, a staggering 91 per cent thought Trump won, while a more conservative 57 per cent of the 64,000 thought the same in the Political Polls vote.

Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said: "People are saying BIG WIN tonight!

"I thought that was my best debate, EVER, especially since it was THREE ON ONE!"

Speaking to GBN America reporter Steven Edginton, American voters shared their views on the debate and revealed who they believed won the head-to-head.

Offering her support to Trump, one voter said: "Trump did really well. I do think that there is an unfair advantage to being on ABC. Kamala got a lot of easy questions and that she wasn't fact checked at all, whereas they fact checked Trump multiple times. So I think as an educated voter, I think Trump won.

Criticising Harris's performance, the voter added: "I think she rehearsed a lot, as if she was rehearsing for a movie, so to speak.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"I do think one of her tactics was to kind of get Trump where he knew he would get stuck on an issue and he would kind of spiral."

Remaining undecided, an independent voter admitted that he believes the debate ended in a "tie", and it "all depended on who was the best liar".

He explained: "I think it was a tie, because I don't think either one gained anything. I think they only stayed where they were."

When asked for his thoughts on Harris, he claimed: "I think she faked it well, and I think Trump was Trump."

Others told GB News that Harris won the debate

Speaking to Democrat supporters, they claimed that Harris won the debate against Trump as she appeared "more educated" than the former US leader.

They told GBNA: "I think Harris won. She's more educated, she didn't seem nervous."

However, they admitted that the moderators of the debate appeared "biased" towards the Democrat hopeful. They added: "I did feel there was some bias towards towards Harris.

"They kept interrupting Trump, saying that's not the question. They were really trying to get him to answer the question, which I can understand, but he's unable to remain on topic, and that bothers me a lot."
