The gaggle of former generals slated the ex-President for disparaging fallen heroes as 'suckers' and 'losers'
Donald Trump has been branded a “danger to national security” by a group of retired generals ahead of his head-to-head debate with Kamala Harris tonight.
Ex-General Larry Ellis and retired Rear Admiral Michael Smith were among the former military chiefs to criticise Trump for his “role in putting service members in harm’s way”.
Trump was further slated for disparaging fallen heroes as “suckers” and “losers” and "insulting the heroic service of the late Senator John McCain”.
Ultimately, the letter saw military generals call the Vice-President the only candidate “who is fit to serve” in office.

The 45th President, who is looking to reinject some energy into his campaign, was slammed over his deal to free 5,000 Taliban fighters without informing the Afghan government, leaving “President Biden and Vice President Harris with no plans to execute a withdrawal, and with little time to do so.”
Earlier this year, two former generals testified before Congress on the subject of the Afghan War.
They held that both the Trump and Biden administrations were responsible for the “disastrous” exit from Afghanistan, sighting Trump’s deal to free 5,000 Taliban fighters as pulling “the rug out, morale wise" of both the Afghan security forces and government”.
They also blamed the Biden and Harris administration for conducting the exit “too slow and too late”.

When asked about his efficacy in international security on the Lex Friedman YouTube channel Trump said: “We had no wars when I was President, we defeated ISIS but that was a war that was started that we weren’t anywhere near defeating.”
He continued: “Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary said: 'The world has to have Trump, because everybody is afraid of Trump.'"
On the matter of the US exit from Afghanistan, and the consequent Taliban uprising, Trump said: “Afghanistan was, in my opinion, the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to our country. And, because of that, when Putin saw how stupid we were, Putin went in.”
“But it was the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country, I really believe that. We left 13 dead soldiers; many soldiers with arms and legs and everything else gone, we left hostages behind; we left military equipment the likes of which nobody’s ever left behind, billions and billions of dollars of equipment, and now they’re one of the biggest arms dealers - very sad.

“I was going to get out, we were getting ready to get out, but then we were interrupted by the election. But we would have been out with dignity and strength, we were having very little problem with the Taliban when I was there because they knew it was going to be tough.”
The letter from the former military chiefs comes ahead of a debate between the two Presidential candidates later tonight.
When asked about the debate, Trump blasted Harris for her inability to perform effectively in a recent interview, exclaiming: “I mean, she couldn’t even do an interview. This was a really soft interview. This was an interview where they’re given multiple choice questions, multiple guess - I call it multiple guess – and I don’t think she did well, I think she did very poorly.”
Harris has reportedly been preparing intensively ahead of her encounter with the former President with mock debate sessions – reportedly getting an advisor to dress in Trump-like attire, and bracing for him hurling a barrage of explicit insults at her.
