Trump is fighting for a second term

GB News hosts Ben Leo and Bev Turner were engaged in a heated debate on GB News with political commentator James Matthewson while discussing the chances of a Donald Trump presidency.

The prospect of a second term is a real one with the 78-year-old performing strongly in the polls after a difficult few months for Joe Biden where he has had to face up to claims he is struggling with a form of cognitive decline, something he has continued to deny.

Bev Turner said she would feel “safer” with Trump at the helm as she spoke to Matthewson about simmering global tensions, a claim which prompted a fiery response.

“Do you think a Trump presidency would be more problematic?”, she asked.

“Evidentially, there were no conflicts under Trump’s premiership. Sometimes it takes a slightly unpredictable man to manage another slightly unpredictable man.

“I think I would feel safer with Trump in the White House.”

Matthewson strongly refuted the take presented by Bev, dubbing Trump a “maniac” and a “sex offender”.

Ben Leo responded: “Forget the conjecture around Trump. Look at his time in office, there were no wars during that time.

“He was the first leader to meet a North Korean leader in a demilitarised zone. There was peace in the Middle East.

“Were there any wars under Trump in the White House?”

Matthewson said wars “didn’t just stop” and conflicts remained rife during his time in office with American soldiers still in Afghanistan.

Bev waded in: “In terms of invasions orchestrated by America, we didn’t have any under Trump.

“It was a time of relative calm during those four years compared to the Obama, Clinton and Bush administrations.

“I draw a distinction between Trump the man, who I think is far from blameless, and what he represents on the global stage.

“If he does get to the White House, I think we might get to relax. People think he would be trigger happy but he wasn’t.”

Matthewson contended that Trump would submit to world leaders like Vladimir Putin and worldwide tensions may not seem as problematic as a result.

“I think the reason we would think that is because Trump would submit to Putin”, he said.

“Look at the comments of JD Vance, he says he doesn’t care about Ukraine. Look at what Churchill said.

“He said you can’t reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth. That is what we’re looking at here.

“You can’t reason with Putin, he wants to invade another sovereign country. If Trump’s solution is ‘let him have it’, where does it stop?”
