Kamala Harris has received endorsements from both Barack and Michelle Obama ahead of the November election

Former US President Barack Obama's endorsement of candidate Kamala Harris "won't be enough" to secure her the presidency, it has been claimed.

Both Barack and his wife Michelle Obama have declared their support for the Vice President after leader Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

Addressing the crowds at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago this week, Barack Obama told voters that America is "ready for a better story" in the hands of Harris.

He added: "We do not need four more years of bluster and bumbling and chaos. We have seen that movie before and we all know that the sequel is usually worse. America is ready for a new chapter - We are ready for a President Kamala Harris."

Speaking to GBN America, US Journalist John Fund claimed Americans "will not vote that way" based on the Obama endorsement alone.

Reacting to his speech, Fund said: "Barack Obama was able to thread a very important needle. On the one hand, he had to say that Kamala Harris was his dear friend and he had promoted her candidacy and that she'd been a wonderful supporter.

"On the other hand, he also had to convince the audience that she was her own person and she was not just a creature of the democratic establishment of which Barack Obama is the leader. And I think he was fairly able to do that."

Praising the former President as an "excellent speaker", Fund also claimed that Obama also made the Harris campaign appealing to both "independent and Republican voters" who are currently undecided on who to vote for.

Fund told GBNA: "I think for the Democratic faithful, he made the transfer of authority from Joe Biden to Kamala Harris very appropriate for independent and Republican voters."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

When pressed by host Steven Edginton on whether he believes Obama can "deliver the presidency" to Harris, Fund admitted: "No, I don't think people in the United States vote that way. It'll obviously be a different story, and we'll have to look at the polls for that.

"But I don't think we have cults of personality that are quite that strong."

Offering his verdict on Kamala Harris as the next possible President of the United States, Fund stressed that she is a "failed Vice President" with "low approval ratings".

Fund claimed: "I think you can validate someone who, remember two months ago, was a failed Vice President. Two months ago, she was someone who had some of the lowest approval ratings of any Vice President in American history.

"So for her to come this far is a testimony to Barack Obama's ability to tell the Democratic establishment, we have to get rid of Joe Biden.

"And also, that we can't afford an open primary to replace him, we have to have Kamala Harris."

Harris now has a 2.8-point lead over Trump in the latest average of national polls, collated by FiveThirtyEight.

Harris is ranking at 46.6 per cent of the vote, with Donald Trump slightly trailing behind at 43.8 per cent of the poll.
