'They acknowledged that he won, but for some reason you have a strange system over there,' Trump said

Donald Trump has claimed that the "fantastic" Nigel Farage won the General Election ahead of a meeting with Keir Starmer.

Speaking to GB News' Political Editor Christopher Hope, the Republican Presidential hopeful lauded his Clacton ally - as well as Reform's surge in the polls back in July.

Trump told The People's Channel: "I think Nigel is great - I've known him for a long time.

"He had a great election too - picked up a lot of seats, more seats than he was allowed to have actually.

"They acknowledged that he won, but for some reason, you have a strange system over there... You might win them, but you don't get them! Nigel is a fantastic person."

The 45th President's remarks came "about an hour" before sit-down talks with the Prime Minister - with Starmer claiming he wants to "establish a relationship" with his potential soon-to-be international colleague.

Speaking ahead of the meeting on Thursday evening, Starmer told reporters including GB News: "It'll be really good to establish a relationship between the two of us.

"I'm a great believer in personal relations on the international stage.

"I think it really matters that you know who your counterpart is in any given country, and know them personally - get to know them face-to-face."

When asked by GB News what he thought of Starmer, Trump said: "Well, I'm going to see him in about an hour so I have to be nice!"

He added: "I actually think he's very nice.

"He ran a great race, he did very well, it's very early - he's very popular."
