Civil servants working for London’s Labour Mayor have been banned from labelling people “illegal” migrants

Sadiq Khan has imposed woke new rules on civil servants at City Hall as London’s Mayor pushes forward his inclusivity guide.

A number of phrases have now been banned at City Hall.

Staff have been encouraged to describe illegal migrants as “undocumented” or with an “insecure immigration status”.

The phrase asylum seekers has also been altered to “people seeking asylum”.

Non-English speakers is no longer allowed as it supposedly implies they are flawed and defective.

Nationals from the European Union in the capital will be known as European Londoners and their families or EEA citizens.

The gendered terms ladies and gentlemen and male or female have both been dropped as City Hall warns neither accommodates for non-binary people.

Staff are told to refer to “people affected by period poverty” because “not all women have periods” and some trans men and non-binary people have them.

Bed blockers and kids have also been dropped.

City Hall’s inclusivity guide was leaked to The Sun.

Staff working for the Greater London Authority also undergo mandatory unconscious bias training.

Several Conservative MPs criticised the leaked memo, labelling the guide “in conflict with fact”.

Tory MP Miriam Cates said: “The whole point of language is that it is commonly understood by those who use it.

"When language is corrupted by elites without popular consensus, our shared culture is weakened and common sense is sacrificed.

"The idea that ‘male’ and ‘female’ are medical conditions is frankly absurd.

“This taxpayer funded guidance is in conflict with fact, reality and the law."

Conservative colleague Tom Hunt added: “This is the sort of nonsense that would be imposed on the whole country if Labour were ever to get into power.

“If you’ve illegally entered our country and broken our immigration laws you’re an ‘illegal immigrant’ end of. No ifs or buts.”

A spokesperson for the Greater London Authority said: “This guide is about encouraging precision, offering recommendations and highlighting things for staff to consider, not banning words.

"London’s diversity is its greatest strength and it is right that the language we use to talk to and about London's communities is as accurate, inclusive and representative as possible.”
