More than 1,700 prisoners have been released

Political commentator Emma Webb has laid bare her fury at Sadiq Khan’s suggestion that recently released prisoners should jump the social housing queue in London.

Speaking on GB News, Webb gave her take on the comments made by the London Mayor in the wake of over 1,700 prisoners being let out early in England and Wales as part of a government scheme to deal with overcrowding.

“If you’re being cynical, we have seen a video of a released prisoner saying he will vote for Labour for the rest of his life”, she said.

“If you wanted to be really cynical, maybe you’re thinking Sadiq Khan is hoping these rehoused prisoners are going to vote Labour if they live in London and keep him in office.

“I think it’s despicable. We’ve got British people who are homeless, veterans homeless and families without adequate housing.

“The fact Labour have released these prisoners early and are now talking about allowing them to jump the housing queue when one of the pressures preventing families from getting on the housing ladder is the fact we’re, at great expense to the taxpayer, housing illegal migrants coming over on small boats.

“The whole thing is an absolute mess. You couldn’t make it up. The whole thing is sick. It stinks.”

GB News host Nana Akua waded in to say: “If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry”, but broadcaster Amy Nickell-Turner was on hand to offer a differing perspective.

“If you look at the number of homeless people out of the prison leaver population, it’s about 25 per cent”, she said.

“Compared to the general population, which is about 0.6 per cent. It’s a massive problem.

Amy Nickell-Turner said Sadiq Khan has a point

“People are leaving prison, finding themselves homeless then reoffending. Surely if we are serious about halting that reoffending rate, then Sadiq Khan does have a point.

“I think where he has lost attention is saying ‘jump the queue’, that instantly inspires a feeling of unfairness.

“I think he’s made a good point in a clumsy way.”

Khan said giving prioritising offenders on the social housing list will help cut reoffending rates.

He has suffered a backlash with GB News star Nigel Farage among those to have taken aim at the London Mayor.

He said: “Sadiq Khan wants free housing for criminals and illegal migrants. And he wants you to pay for it all.”
