Residents of Stoke on Trent have shared their thoughts on the Rwanda migrant policy, ahead of the Supreme Court ruling on the plan.

Today, the Supreme Court will rule if the highly controversial move will go ahead, following Suella Braverman's sacking as Home Secretary.

The immigration policy, implemented by Braverman, would see migrants entering the UK illegally deported to Rwanda where their asylum claims will be processed.

The court will today decide if the plan can go ahead, mounting further pressure on the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to deliver on "stopping the boats".

The policy has already seen a lengthy legal battle with the European Court of Human Rights, and has been previously branded "unlawful" by the court.

In 2022, the first and only flight attempting to deport migrants to Rwanda was stopped, sparking the battle between the Conservative government and the courts.

In a GB News exclusive people's poll, the majority of Britons support the policy, with 40 per cent backing it and 32 per cent opposing the plan.

Speaking to residents in Stoke on Trent, locals shared their verdict on whether the policy should be ruled as lawful.

Speaking in support of the policy, one man said: "I think anything that goes ahead with getting people into safety is a good idea. I think obviously the government's doing whatever they can to support people that are obviously in desperate need of of travelling protection basically.

"So it's a positive move and anything we can do to help as a country we should always try to do."

Another resident was also in favour of the plan, stating: "There's no other option for them is there, they just float in the sea, they die in the sea, they land here, they're running and fleeing their life and things.

"So what choice do they have? If they stamp it yes, go to Rwanda. They've got no choice."

Criticising the government's efforts, another Stoke on Trent resident said: "Well, something's got to be done. Simple as that. I do feel sorry for some of them, but they're all young men coming over in this country.

"It's been too much now."

Another lady highlighted the benefits for migrants in Rwanda: "At least they're going to go somewhere where they're going to be looked after and perhaps have a job."

One local was against the Rwanda plan and supported the ruling, admitting "I think they've got to do something, but I don't think Rwanda is the answer to it at all."
