A general election is expected to be held in the second half of this year

Leader of Reform UK Richard Tice has called for Conservative candidates to "step down", ahead of this year's anticipated general election.

The call follows comments made by GB News presenter Mark Dolan, who claimed Tice's party risks "saddling Britain" with a Labour victory, if they go to the polls.

Addressing GB News viewers this week, Mark said the battle between Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak, due to take place this year, is the "lesser of two evils".

He added: "Five years of a Labour government and securing Starmer living in Number 10 is handing the keys to power to the most woke political party in the country."

Richard Tice took to social media to respond to Mark's comments, telling his fellow GB News presenter: "You admit Tories are toxic and dreadful, yet you seem to want to stifle democracy by preventing millions of people from saying they want an alternative, they want Reform UK.

"Both Labour and Tories, two sides of same socialist coin; only Reform can save Britain."

Mark invited Tice onto his show in response to the social media post, and told Tice that Reform "are going to do very well" in the year ahead.

Tice defended his stance on Reform's chances of beating Labour, and that the party want to "save Britain" from both a Conservative and Labour government.

He told GB News: "The Tories, they've had their chance. We stood down for them in 2019. They've messed up, they've completely fouled up. It's time for them to do the decent thing on behalf of the country.

"They should stand down. As Richard Littlejohn said, let me take on Keir Starmer. We win hands down."

Mark then asked in response: "Do you accept that a Labour government is coming and is that a price worth paying for your political revolution?"

Tice hit back at Mark: "We're standing everywhere so that everybody has the choice to say actually, only Reform UK can save Britain."

Reflecting on his monologue which sparked Tice's reaction, Mark admitted he was given "a very red bottom" by his viewers and listeners, to which Tice swiped "deservedly so!"

Mark then asked the Reform UK leader for his "best outcome" for the party in the next election, which Tice outlined his plan to "save Britain".

Tice said: "I want millions of people to vote Reform and I want proportional representation. I want to save Britain.

"We're in deep trouble, whether it's whether it's the con socialism of the Tories, or the red socialism of Labour. This country is in trouble. It needs change."
