Nigel Farage took over as leader of Reform UK on Monday and is standing for MP for Clacton

Reform UK is overtaking the Conservative Party in the Midlands and the North, according to new figures.

Founded in 2021 as a re-launch of the Brexit party, Reform has grown in popularity in the polls at the cost of the Conservatives.

In the North, the Conservatives are polling at 16 per cent, 5 points behind Reform UK at 21 per cent.

Similarly, in the Midlands, the Tories stand at 20 per cent while Reform pushes ahead at 25 per cent, the highest figure the party has been polled at in the region since its launch.

Figures from June 4, taken from a YouGov daily tracker, also show that Reform is catching up with the Tories across all regions.

The Conservatives currently stand at 19 per cent while Reform has risen to 17 per cent amongst all adults ahead of the upcoming general election.

It comes after Farage announced he would be taking over as leader of the Reform party from Richard Tice and standing as an MP for Clacton.

His announcement came as a surprise since Farage previously ruled out standing in the general election in his first campaign speech on May 23.

The 60-year-old previously described Reform as a “brand new Conservative movement” and pointed to a “lack of debate” between the two main parties.

Earlier this week, Farage told Camilla Tominey on GB News that Reform would challenge the Tories in the polls sooner than expected.

“Everyone knows that the election is over in terms of who wins,” Farage said.

“But I think what will happen is we will take equally from the Conservatives, Labour and non-voters.

“I would hope that within a week, we will be equal with the Conservatives and maybe ahead.

“And I think that is possible. It’s possible because it won’t just be Tories switching, it will be Labour too,” Farage explained.

According to another poll conducted earlier this year by Britain Predicts, Suvation, Farage is expected to win in Clacton.

The poll conducted in January 2024 found that with Farage at the helm, Reform would win the seat in Clacton with 37 per cent, followed by the Conservatives with 27 per cent and Labour with 23 per cent.

The pollsters found that half of all Conservative voters polled in Clacton would vote for Farage if he were to stand as well as 52 per cent of leave voters.
