Reform UK sees staggering rise to double-digits in polls as Tice accuses Sunak of lying to Britons

Reform UK has rarely seen its support enter double-digits but leader Richard Tice is hoping to benefit from Sunak steering the Tories to the centre.

The opinion poll found that Conservative support has plummeted to as low as 19 per cent, with Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Party extending its lead to a staggering 30 points.

​Overall support for the Liberal Democrats stands at just nine per cent and the Green Party is registering around seven per cent.

Tice welcomed Reform UK’s boost, claiming it would continue to rise following Suella Braverman’s dismissal as Home Secretary.

He told GB News: “I’m not surprised by this fantastic poll for Reform UK. We knew we were heading upward.

“We’ve had a huge surge of new members since the reshuffle because Sunak is taking the, what I call ConSocialist Tories, ever more to the left, ever closer to what Labour stands for, high-tax, high-regulation, mass immigration.

“Our polling will go even higher after Suella Braverman’s bombshell letter which basically proves that Rishi Sunak is not serious about boats, he’s not serious about Brexit, he’s not serious about gender ideology.

“She’s accusing him of misleading not only her but much more importantly the British people.

“The people don’t like being lied to, they don’t like being misled and they know that we actually stand up with courage for the values of millions of people.”

Double-digit support for the populist party could see them emulate the support garnered by Nigel Farage when almost four million people voted for UKIP in the 2015 general election.

UKIP also claimed by-election victories at the expense of the Tory Party in Clacton and Rochester & Strood in 2014.

The situation could prove even more catastrophic for the Conservatives at the next general election as Labour appears to have consolidated its support while the right splinters.

David Campbell-Bannerman, who served as a Tory and UKIP MEP from 2009 to 2019, suggested the polling was evidence that Conservative MPs need to ditch Sunak before it is too late.

Campbell-Bannerman also confirmed the Conservative Democratic Organisation was inundated with messages of disgust about Braverman’s sacking.

He added: “Sunak has abandoned the centre-right and ended any pretence of being a Brexit Government.

“It’s time for Conservative MPs to save their bacon and the country’s bacon and get their letters in to Brady. It’s do or die.”

Dame Andrea Jenkyn became the first Tory MP to confirm she had handed in a no confidence letter yesterday after declaring “enough is enough”.

Braverman also penned an explosive letter to Sunak after she was sacked as Home Secretary.

The Fareham MP, who is considered the right’s leading candidate to succeed Sunak after the next election, said: “You have manifestly and repeatedly failed to deliver on every single one of these key policies.”

Concluding the letter, Braverman added: “Someone needs to be honest: your plan is not working, we have endured record election defeats, your resets have failed and we are running out of time.”

However, other Tory MPs hope the Prime Minister can pivot towards a more conservative agenda.

A right-wing MP told GB News: “People did not elect a Conservative Government on a massive majority to get a centrist managerial Government.

“We need a return to conservatism. Low taxes, more freedom and tough action on law and order and illegal immigration. That is what Conservative voters actually want.”

A source close to the Brexit-backing European Research Group was even more scathing.

“They’ve clearly decided to go down a path of the centre ground which is the opposite of what you need to do when you're fighting a very tough general election,” the insider claimed.

“In terms of fiscal policy, we are giving with one hand and then highly taxing with the other. It’s madness.

“The public won’t believe us on immigration unless we do something radical and that is what we should have done from the get-go, not waste a year with these court proceedings which it looks like we are going to lose anyway.”

Braverman’s exit from the Cabinet comes as Sunak moved moderate James Cleverly to the Home Office and made ex-Prime Minister Lord David Cameron Foreign Secretary.

Cameron, who was the architect of the 2016 Remain campaign, became the first peer to hold the position of Foreign Secretary since Lord Carrington.

He has also been joined by a number of other Remain-supporting MPs, including new Health Secretary Victoria Atkins and Chief Secretary to the Treasury Laura Trott.
