Chancellor Rachel Reeves has sparked controversy over her claim UK households will be "£500 better off" under Labour.
The assertion came during her Spring Statement delivered earlier today, where she attributed the figure to the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).
In her statement to the House, Reeves declared: "The OBR say today that people will be on average over £500 a year better off under this Labour Government."
She claimed this figure represented improved household disposable income compared to forecasts from the final budget delivered by the previous Government.
However, an investigation by The Telegraph has cast doubt on this claim.
The newspaper reports that the OBR confirmed it had "no involvement in the calculation of the figure" and suggests households could actually be £571 worse off by the next general election.
The OBR's forecast document published alongside the Chancellor's statement contained no explicit mention of the £500 figure.
