Pottinger said: “The person who is cleverest at recognising the aspirations is actually Nigel Farage.
“And the more you see these candidates, the more you think what a difference it would be if Nigel was running the Conservative Party.”
GB News’ Andrew Pierce argued that Farage leading the Conservatives would “definitely worry Labour”.
Weighing in on whether Nigel Farage should lead the Conservatives, host Nana Akua said: “I think the Tory brand is too toxic, they've been fighting and fighting and everything else like that. I don't think anyone will tolerate that. And I don't think Nigel will want to do that.”
GB News readers also had their say with one user writing: “Nigel, whatever you do, don't join the Conservatives. Half of them are Remoaners, they are snakes and would try to destroy you.”
Another wrote: “You have half a dozen people wanting to run a mainstream party and the best person for the job isn't even in the party. If that doesn't tell you that your party is finished, nothing will.”
Agreeing with Pottinger, one Twitter user said: “If Farage leads the Conservatives, I would vote for them again only if Farage takes control.”
In the exclusive poll for GB News membership readers, an overwhelming majority (69 per cent) of the 1,885 voters think Nigel Farage is best placed to lead the Tories, while just 28 per cent think he isn't. Three per cent said they did not know.
